LinkedIn post limits: post text length, image size and video length
LinkedIn allows 3,000 characters, but shows only about 210 before “…more”. That first stretch decides whether anyone reads the rest, which makes LinkedIn the network where the opening line matters most.

These are the limits for publishing through a scheduling tool — LinkedIn’s publishing API — and they are the same rules our editor checks as you write. Posting by hand in the LinkedIn app can allow a little more on some limits.
Planning a LinkedIn post
- Put the hook in the first ~210 characters, and break the rest into short paragraphs.
- Text-only posts perform well on LinkedIn — media is optional.
- Up to 9 images can go in one post.
Company Pages and personal profiles
LinkedIn lets scheduling tools publish to both company Pages and members’ own profiles, each with its own permission. For B2B clients the founder’s or an executive’s profile often reaches further than the company Page, so it is worth planning both — and being clear with the client about who signs off posts that go out under a person’s own name.
Posting to a company Page needs an admin role on that Page. Posting to a profile needs that person to connect their own account; nobody else can do it for them.
Writing for the “…more” line
LinkedIn shows about 210 characters before “…more”, and on a phone that can be as little as two or three lines. Everything the post has to say to someone scrolling past lives there.
- Open with the claim, the number or the question — not “I’m excited to share…”
- Use short paragraphs with a blank line between them; walls of text lose people
- Use the full 3,000 characters only when the post really needs it
- Three to five specific hashtags at the end are plenty
Text-only posts are normal on LinkedIn and often perform as well as posts with an image, so media is optional. Links are clickable and draw a preview card from the linked page.
Images and multi-image posts
LinkedIn fits images of any shape, at least 320 px wide. Portrait 4:5 (1080 × 1350 px) or square (1080 × 1080 px) take up the most room in a mobile feed; wide landscape images are shown small.
Up to 9 images can go in one post, shown as a grid that opens into a gallery.
Video
Through publishing, LinkedIn takes video from 3 seconds up to 10 minutes. Most of it is watched on a phone, silently, while scrolling — so short, captioned, vertical or square video suits it better than a landscape webinar clip.
